They correctly point out that alkaline or acid water is is an impossibility because negative OH ions can only exist for a short time before being electrically neutralized at the anode. I believe that the alkalinity and acidity of the water can be explained by the production of calcium and magnesium hydroxide at the cathode and hydrogen peroxide at the anode.
